My neighbor called to share the following. When he got up this morning he
saw ashes from the fireplace spilled on the hearth and on the carpet. Not
hearing or seeing anything unusual, he looked into the fireplace only to find
a female mallard sitting quietly among the ashes. He simply opened the front
door, removed the mesh screen from in front of the fireplace and watched as
the mallard calmly walked out of the fireplace, across the livingroom, and
out the door into the yard. She was too embarrassed to say anything. She
was later seen near the backyard pond.
