Hello Tweeters,
I was at Iona yesterday from about 2:30 until about 5:30 pm. Walked the
entire length of the jetty. Unfortunately, the tide was out, so I did not
see much on the way out. What I did see was: Greater (Lesser?) Scaup,
Double-crested Cormorant, a Gadwall pair, Dunlin, and Gulls. When I got to
the very end of the jetty, I was treated to a spectacular display of about
150 (Common?) Terns diving for some sort of little fish. The noise was
wonderful; in between their calls and then splash, splash, splash, as they
dove right into the water. Oh yeah, there were also Great Blue Herons and
some Bald Eagles. My next trip out to Iona will be spent searching for
Yellow-headed blackbirds and other songbirds. Today's trip will be to Ladner
Harbour Park, here in Ladner to check out the birdlife there, since I will
be leading a field trip there tomorrow!
