I got an e-mail from a woman who lives on Fair Ave. across from the Sundome
in Yakima this morning. She said that this morning she had an Indigo
Bunting at her bird feeder. Also there this morning were a Lazuli Bunting
and a Western Tanager. I rushed to her house and got there just after 1:00.
None of these birds were there. She did take some photos, which she let me
take to Costco for 1-hour developing. The photos of the Indigo Bunting
turned out pretty well and three of them will be on the BirdYak website
within half an hour.

I checked the neighborhood a little, playing a tape of the buniting's song,
but couldn't find it. It is not really the type of neighborhood that feels
safe for birding. She has promised to call me right away if it comes back
to her feeder.

There was a Black-chinned Hummingbird in her yard.

This is the first documented record of an Indigo Bunting in Yakima County.
It is really quite amazing since the woman has only been feeding birds a few
years, had never seen either of the buntings before, knew it was rare and
took pretty good photos of it.

I will keep you posted.
