This morning I made a quick Seattle purple martin tour from about 8-10am, and found the following:
Shilshole Bay: 3 adult males and 2-3 females among the northern nestboxes
Pier 91: no martins
Kellogg Island (from Herring's House Park): a male and female toward the south end of the boxes and gourds.
Terminal 105: 2 adult males, 1 female among the many house sparrows
Terminal 5/Jack Block Park: 3 adult males, 2 females
In the mid afternoon I went back to the Duwamish area sites and saw no martins at all, which is not surprising. This time of season they are most likely to be found at dawn and dusk. I hope to see them building nests shortly.
