This is the Vancouver Bird Alert update for Saturday May 18th, sponsored in
part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for a BLACKPOLL WARBLER, BLACK TERNS and a probable
CURVE-BILLED THRASHER.

Sightings for Saturday, May 18

A bird fitting the description of a CURVE-BILLED THRASH was discovered
singing at the top of a tree near Beach Grove Park in Tsawwassen. The bird
was observed around 10:00 AM in the area west of the Park proper. An
extensive search to relocate this bird was conducted and at the time of this
taping it has not been re-reported to the Alert.

Six BLACK TERNS were seen at Grant Narrows RP in Pitt Meadows. The birds
were seen flying over the marsh south of the Nature Dike approx ? the
distance from the dike entrance and the observation tower.

At Jericho Park a male BLACKPOLL WARBLER was observed in the company of a
flock of Yellow-rumps near the wooden bridge. Also on the pond at Jericho
were 6 REDHEADS.

An additional 4 REDHEADS were reported from the Iona ponds. Also at the
ponds were 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPE.

Seen near the foot 112th at Boundary Bay was a WHIMBREL and 4 CASPIAN TERN.

A singing male LAZULI BUNTING was seen near the old farm buildings at Colony
Farm on the Coquitlam side of the park.

Friday, May 17

In late reports for Friday was a singing BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER near the
intersection of North West Marine Dr. and Iona near UBC. Also at this
location was a NASHVILLE WARBLER. Seen from the cliff at Cecil Green Park
were 5 - 6 PARASITIC JAEGERS.

At Iona were 3 WILSON'S PHALAROPE, 2 f & 1 m. At the Iona Jetty tip were a
breeding plumaged RUDDY TURNSTONE and 3 breeding plumaged RED KNOTS. Also
reported from Iona was a WHIMBREL and 3 REDHEADS.

A female CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was seen at Grant Narrows near the observation
tower on the Nature Dike. South of the Park a kettle of 10 TURKEY VULTURES
was observed.

A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was reported from the wetland area at Colony Farm.

A MARBLED GODWIT was observed at Crescent Beach.

A BARRED OWL was seen in Pacific Spirit Park at the south end of the Clifton
Trail.

Thursday, May 16

Three PINE GROSBEAKS were seen at a feeder near UBC's Buchanan Building.

Wednesday, May 16th

At Burnaby Mountain Park was a CHIPPING SPARROW and a female
CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD.

A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was seen at the Iona Ponds.

Seen at Blackie Spit was a PURPLE MARTIN inspecting a nest box.

At Lily Point, Point Roberts was a WESTERN KINGBIRD.
