Sue Trevathan, Carole Elder, Joy Nelson, Ron Simons and I did a relaxed big day
on Vashon and Maury Islands from 7am to 3pm Sunday and found 81 species. We had
great views of a Barred Owl perched near where it feeds its young and found a
Vaux's Swift, which for some reason is rare over Vashon. We found a couple of
groups of Pigeon Guilemot numbering 25 to 30 birds. We missed a few regulars
like Brown Creeper and Townsend's Warbler and many of the waterfowl species had
just migrated out over the last week. Two weeks earlier and over a hundred
would have been possible.
