Today, I went birding along the Klondike Swamp Trail at Cougar Mountain
Regional Wildland Park in Issaquah. I saw lots of birds, but I also saw
something I have never seen before in Washington: all along the muddy
trail, there were hundreds and hundreds of large snails. Their bodies were
pale yellowish-brown and their shells were dark brownish-black and over an
inch across. Does anyone know what species they are and why they were out
on the trail in such numbers?
