Greetings Tweeters,

I'm having a little trouble IDing a sparrow I spotted this morning along the trail to McAlister Creek at Nisqually. I eliminated SONG right away because of the short tail and white supercilium. It also had bright white malars, and broad, pale breast streaking. Overall it was a pale bird; no dark coloring at all. It was sitting up on a large shrub along the trail. Any suggestions / advise?

Also at Nisqually was the AVOCET in beautiful breeding plumage feeding along the far shore of the "new" pond to the west of the parking lot. Near it was a female BUFFLEHEAD diving for lunch. Only one I've seen lately, she must have missed the train north. Lots of YELLOW WARBLERS and COMMON YELLOWTHROATS out and about, and several pairs of BLUE-WINGRD TEAL. A pair of GADWALLS, a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS, and a couple of GOLDFINCH round out the list of interesting sightings.
