I was a fool for not checking Tweeters this weekend! Oblivious to the
possibility of an A. Avocet, I birded Nisqually yesterday with the hordes of
"nature lovers" (yes, even those kids playing soccer on the boardwalk). I
can only hope that the Avocet wasn't scared away by the families that seemed
to think the Refuge was a city park! I saw no Avocet on the entire loop,
and I scanned the willow ponds thoroughly hoping for last year's Wilson's
Phalarope...also not present. Highlights were some late waterfowl, 1 AM.
WIGEON, 1 N. PINTAIL. Also a pair of B/W TEAL, 4 HOODED MERGANSERS (and I
believe three chicks, although they were sans parents). Also a couple of N.
Rough-Winged Swallows. Tried to scan for Common Terns on the Reach, but
again was foiled by children jumping on the observation platform. Trying
again tomorrow.
