Like everyone else who can't get back there right away, I've been following the Gnatcatcher bulletins eagerly. I have a question that I haven't seen answered yet, and perhaps a tweeter out there can answer. Since there appears to be only a male at the present time, is it possible that this nest building behavior is typical for this species? There are a lot of migrations wherein the males arrive first and stake out territory. Could it be that with Gnatcatchers, the males arrive first and start building a nest? I'm not suggesting that a lone female is on it's way, only that this misdirected male is doing what comes naturally for his species. Any thoughts?
