I walked the entire loop trail at Nisqually today. The best bird of the day
was a LONG-BILLED CURLEW on the mudflats along the sound at 10:00 am. At
first, I assumed it was a Whimbrel since they have been out there for the
past few weeks. Once I set the scope on it and saw the extremely long bill
and I realized it was not a Whimbrel. I watched the curlew for 10 minutes
until some CASPIAN TERNS chased it away, allowing me to also see the
cinnamon coloring on the wings.

Other birds of note;

AMERICAN BITTERN 3 (one heard displaying, while 2 others flew by)
WOOD DUCK -had three females with young including the female with the 3
HOODED MERGANSER chicks. She has now moved the family down to the Ring Dike
pond.
CALIFORNIA QUAIL 2 -male and female in front of visitor center
SORA 5 - 4 heard, 1 seen
COMMON TERN 1
GREAT HORNED OWL 1

I was unable to find the LAZULI BUNTING or the WILSON'S PHALAROPES found
yesterday.

Good Birding!
