I have three gray squirrels who live in a tree in my yard. They like the
suet
for the birds so I tie the suet feeders shut with 15 lb wire - they still
nibble on it, but they can't pull it open so most is there for the birds. I
feed them peanuts and corncobs daily outside my back door as they're so
cute - and look me right in the eye in the kitchen if their food isn't out
yet. They were getting into my sunflower seed tube feeder until I strung it
on 15 lb wire - just be sure the feeder is about 4 feet from the closest
tree and at least 4 feet off the ground. This solved the feeder attack
problem without any baffle. They do eat some of the feed I put out for
groundfeeders, but the birds and squirrels don't seem to mind sharing. I
enjoy them all. I have opposums out there who eat the seed at night, but
prefer it's finished by nightfall so as not to attract rats.
