This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Monday November 4th, evening update,
sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North
Vancouver.

Featured bird is AMERICAN AVOCET.

Sightings for November 4

An AMERICAN AVOCET was observed at Elgin Heritage Park off Crescent Rd. in
Surrey.

An AMERICAN TREE SPARROW was seen along Kennedy Rd. near Kilby Provincial
Park in the Fraser Valley.

November 3

A search of gull flocks at the Bailey Landfill in Chilliwack paid off with
an adult SLATY-BACKED GULL, and a WESTERN GULL.

In Albert Dyck Park in Abbotsford was a HARRIS'S SPARROW.

Reported from the Reifel Refuge were 2 CINAMMON TEAL and a ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK.

Seen in a field off 57B in Delta was a flock of 50 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS and 2
LAPLAND LONGSPURS.

November 2

>From the Iona Jetty came the report of 17 SNOW BUNTINGS at the 2-? km mark.
Also near here were 2 LAPLAND LONGSPURS.

The adult NORTHERN SHRIKE was again seen on the Port Coquitlam side of
Colony Farm RP.

On a VNHS field trip to Mt. Seymour the highlight birds were 1 or possibly 2
NORTHERN PYGMY OWLS and 6 PINE GROSBEAK. These birds were seen within a km
of the trailhead from the parking lot.

In the SW corner of the Roberts Bank Jetty were 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS with
a small group of WESTERN SANDPIPERS.

November 1

The YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen in the morning around 8:00 AM on Waldie
Island at Castlegar in the Kootenays.

Seen at Colony Farm RP on the Port Coquitlam side were a NORTHERN SHRIKE & a
SHORT-EARED OWL being mobbed by numerous crows.

October 31

A SNOW BUNTING was seen on the Iona Jetty and a SWAMP SPARROW was seen along
the Iona/Sea Island Causeway. The bird was close to the Iona end of the
causeway.
