Greetings All,

On 4 and 5 Nov went birding Wenatchee Confluence State Park. Here are the
highlights.

Brant...The immature that has been present since 8 October, was at the small
bay along the Columbia River at the south end of the park and
viewed from Walla Walla Point Park. This bird has been seen off and on
during the last month. It is usually seen feeding with Canadas on the lawns
in the area but has also been seen feeding with American Wigeons on the
Columbia River.

Snow Goose...An immature with Canada Geese at the same bay as the Brant.
Roger Johnson first found this bird at the park on 10 October.

Five Cackling Canada Geese on the lawns north of the Campground on both
days.

Greater White-fronted Goose...Roger Johnson found one immature with Canada
Geese at the Swim Area on 5 November.

Red-breasted Merganser...one female type with Common Mergansers on the
Columbia River south of the Boat Launch on 5 November.

Mink...one sitting on the rock rip rap at the south end of the Pedestrian
Bridge over the Wenatchee River. Also observed swimming under water and
inspecting dead salmon lying at the bottom of the river.

Northern Saw-whet Owl...Just before noon on the 4th, I ran into Vince
Vesterby, who had just seen one of these owls flying and hunting along a
trail in the Horan Natural Area, which is part of the state park. After
several minutes Vince located the bird again. It was wide awake, sitting on
a small willow branch about five feet from the ground. Two of its talons
were red,
probably just had lunch.

Say's Phoebe...One was north of the campground. Hopefully this bird will
stick around for the CBC. I checked the Wenatchee CBC records for the last
10 years and Say's Phoebes have been recorded on three of those counts,
all single birds.
