I ran the monthly census at the Steigerwald Lake N.W.R., in Clark
County near Washougal, on Sunday 11/10/02. The birds of interest were 10
GREAT EGRETS, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 2 WHITE-TAILED KITES, 1 GREAT HORNED
OWL, a SHORT-EARED OWL, and a NORTHERN SHRIKE.
The kites were south of the lake and the Short-eared Owl was over
the grassy field east of the lake, both species were visible from Highway
14.
