This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Sunday November 10th, evening update,
sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North
Vancouver.

Featured birds are BARN SWALLOW and SWAMP SPARROW.

Sightings for November 10

Three BARN SWALLOWS were seen at the Reifel Refuge. A SWAMP SPARROW was
also seen near the tower at the Refuge. Also reported from Reifel were 3
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 200 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and a SHORT-EARED
OWL.

A single BARN SWALLOW was observed near Garry Point in Richmond. This
location is just north of the Reifel Refuge.

An adult WESTERN GULL was seen in a roost NE of Hwy #10 & 96th in Delta.

Seen along the Iona Jetty were 2 SNOW BUNTINGS and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR. On
the road in to Iona a SHORT-EARED OWL was seen.

November 9

The gull thought to be a Vega type HERRING GULL was reported from a large
gull roost NW of Burns Dr. & 96th in Delta. Photos are desired of this
bird.

At Colony Farm RP came the report of an AMERICAN BITTERN, NORTHERN SHRIKE
and a female RING-NECKED DUCK.

Reported from Reifel were 2 SWAMP SPARROWS and a juvenile NORTHERN GOSHAWK.

November 8

Seen from the foot of 12th at Beach Grove were 15 BRANT.

November 5

The AMERICAN AVOCET was seen at Elgin Heritage Park near the footbridge.

Amongst a large gull roost on the east side of 96th St. north of Burns Rd.
in Delta was a bird thought to be a 1st winter Vega type HERRING GULL.
