It came back. I was in the yard about 4PM and heard it first and then saw
it atop a utility pole 200 ft away. Glenda had just arrived home and so she
got to see it too. It left after about 60 seconds and flew east about a 1/2
mile and then veered south before I lost sight of it. In the 24 days since
the last sighting it's tail feathers have finishing growing out and look as
they should on a mature male Common Grackle. This is the first time I've
ever heard one vocalize. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't
called.
