The Washington Ornithological Society would like to announce the following
field trips:

Saturday, November 30 - Sequim and Port Angeles
Bob Norton and Judy Mullally will lead a trip to the mouth of the Elwha
River to get good views of Thayer's gull and then to Port Angeles Harbor to
test telescope and observer resolution to see how far away the ID can be
made. We will also scour the harbor for rock sandpipers and the strait for
ancient murrelets. We will then move further east to the usual spots for
possible yellow-billed loons (it appears to be a good year for them) and
other rarities. Meeting place is 9AM at the Elwha River Mouth. Directions to
the Dike given on registration. Trip limit is 12. Call Bob Norton at (360)
928-3053 to reserve a spot. You can also register by email at
norton36 at olypen.com .

Sunday, December 8th - Blaine and Birch Bay
Jim Duemmel will lead a field trip to Blaine and Birch Bay in Whatcom
County. Bring a scope to view loons, grebes, ducks, and shorebirds that
winter on salt water bays. This date is chosen, a week before the CBC's
start, as an opportunity to refresh identification skills for the CBC
season. Limited to 8 participants. Contact Jim at (360) 733-3448 or
j.duemmel at worldnet.att.net.

WOS Field Trips allow members to explore places or revisit familiar haunts.
Each trip is open to a limited number of participants. Each member may join
up to four trips per year (excluding annual conference trips). Non-members
may attend as a member's guest once per year. Questions about field trips
should be directed to the trip leader(s). If you would like to lead a field
trip, or would like to suggest a location for a field trip, send a note to
FieldTrips at wos.org.
