Took advantage of the break in the weather this morning,
birding PNP and the Nature Conservancy property just north of there. PNP was
alive with sparrows, finches, Pine Siskins and Juncos. Best birds here were
a pair of LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, just next to the parking lot, 4 White-crowned
and 6 Golden-crowned Sparrows. House finches were everywhere in the
hedgerows along with 18 Pine Siskins. Offshore small flocks of Ancient
Murrelets were moving by, along with Common Murres and smaller numbers of
Rhinocerous Auklets. Further out a large group of Bonaparte's Gulls moved
back and forth with the tidal rip. Also, in front of the boat launch 12
Heermann's Gulls were present.
The Nature Conservancy was quiet with one lone Long-billed
Dowitcher and 6 Hooded Mergansers. On the trail out we had a Yellow-rumped
Warbler along with 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglets. The large flock of American
Widgeon present in the marsh for the past several weeks has moved on,
probably stirred by yesterday's wild weather.
It was a beautiful morning for birding....
