...........Sunday aft-----Ridgefield NWR---River S Unit.............
...........Geese....geese....geese everywhere!!!!! P-l-e-n-t-y of ducks
also---including 4 (rather uncommon) CANVASBACKS at Rest Lake. Some
wetlands not filled with water, so all were more concentrated in the
areas of water. 8 TUNDRA SWANS at the south end of said lake.
............If you are a hawk lover, than this was your day!!! Hawks all
aver the place---especially in the trees on the west side along the
slough.......Male, female and immature Harriers, RED-TAILS( including
what looked like a HARLAND'S subspecie); a KESTREL; AND.....a small
brown jay-sized hawk on a tree near the entrance that appeared every bit
a MERLIN. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was also reported seen near Rest Lake.
............Hundreds (.....or so it seemed) of SANDHILL CRANES flew
overhead toward the E--SE just before dusk. They were quite a noisy
bunch!!! SONG SPARROWS and OREG. JUNCOS, and a BEWICK'S WREN flitted
about, here and there .
............Cheers!!!
