Hi Tweets,

About 4 in the morning, in my sleep deprived delerium
while studying for a biochem exam, I resolved to go to
Ocean Shores after class today. I had to go to
Puyallup to pick some stuff up anyway, so why not?

Unfortunately the rain started not long after I left
at 12:00. After spending a little time looking
unsuccessfully for the reported Ruff near Elma I ran
into Jason Paulios who gave me directions on viewing
the pastures from Monte Elma road. While scanning the
pasture from the back of the cemetary I had a single
BARN SWALLOW fly overhead, but no Ruff.

I continued to Ocean Shores and birded a little bit
from the Jetty and also Damon Point. I think the
relentless wind had most things hunkered down although
I counted more than 20 Hooded Mergansers at the Sewage
Treatment Plant. I found a dead Red Phalarope at the
base of the Pt. Brown Jetty; it looked like the gulls
had been picking at it. The surf and wind made it too
difficult to really see anything out on the water.
