Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday November 21. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On November 18 a probable ROSS'S GULL was observed off Yachats. The BLUE JAY
continues to be seen in the Wayside Loop area of North Springfield.

On November 17 a BLACK-VENTED SHEARWATER was among a group of SHORT-TAILED
SHEARWATERS and FULMARS off the viewing platform at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River. The next day a MANX SHEARWATER was off Boiler Bay.

Very heavy coastal movements were reported during the week. On November 18
thousands of loons and MURRES, 290 ANCIENT MURRELETS, and over 800
RHINOCEROS AUKLETS PASSED BOILER BAY. Extremely large numbers of BROWN
PELICANS moved south during the week with 2000 reported from Pacific City
November 18. Good numbers of RED PHALAROPES continue along the coast and
were inland at Independence, Sheridan, Fern Ridge Reservoir, and the
Fernhill Wetlands. On November 20 at least 200 SANDHILL CRANES passed
southward over Portland's West Hills, Beaverton, and Wilsonville.

On November 15 a TREE SPARROW was in Brookings. The TROPICAL KINGBIRD
continues to be seen at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River, and two has
remained all week along the road at the south edge of the Warrenton Sewage
Ponds. On November 20 a BLACK PHOEBE was along the Wilson River just east of
Tillamook. On November 14 an almost full breeding plumaged YELLOW-BILLED
LOON was on the Columbia River off Woodland, WA. One was at the cove in
Seaside November 20.

Up to four FERRUGINOUS HAWKS are being reported from Ridgefield NWR. A
RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was among 110 COMMON MERGANSERS November 13 at the
Fernhill Wetlands. A SWAMP SPARROW was there November 19. A BLACK PHOEBE was
at Baskett Slough NWR November 14. Two late BARN SWALLOWS were at Salem
Novembe 18. A female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was at the Willamina Sewage Ponds
November 13. Two RUFFS and a FRANKLIN'S GULL remained on a sheep pasture
west of Junction City all week.

Very large flocks of waterfowl are now in the Klamath Basin. BUFFLEHEAD are
unusually abundant on Upper Klamath Lake. On November 16 over 1000
GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were on Bald Mountain near Tollgate in Northeast
Oregon. A flock of SNOW BUNTINGS was at Theif Valley Reservoir south of
LaGrande November 18. A BOHEMIAN WAXWING was in a flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS at
the Elgin Sewage Ponds November 17.
