On Nov.10 I recorded a drake Common (Eurasian) Green-winged Teal among
330 Green-winged Teal; at Washington Harbor near Sequim. This is an area
I census almost weekly throughout the year.

On November 14 I observed am adult Barnacle Goose among 80-90 Canadas on
Kirner Pond a few miles northwest of Sequim. Apparently an escapee as
its normal range is Greenland and northern Europe. The species is
popular among collectors and aviculturists in the U.S..Last time I saw
one was in 1955 when I was the refuge biologist at Tule Lake-Klamath
Basin N.W. Refuges in 1955-56. Obviously another escapee because I was
able to get very close to it for photographs

Another partial white headed goose also was with the Kirner Pond flock
of geese, but something flushed the flock before I had a good look at
it, but it appeared to be a Canada hybrid. I have no reports of them
there since that date. But a group of birders from Pilchuck Audubon
reported two white-headed geese among flocks of Canadas on November near
Gardiner, about l5 miles east of Sequim. Whether they were the same
birds or what they were I saw I cannot say.

On Nov. 14 I trapped a House Finch female in one of my banding traps.
This bird had rather broad white wing stripes on the basal part of the
primaries. It was banded, photographed and released. In 1997 I trapped
and banded two partial akbino House Finches apparently from the same
brood at Diamond Point, WA. Both birds were a light biege with red eyes.
That event was published in the 1992 issue of Washington Birds, No.2 by
the Washington Ornithological Society. I operated a banding station and
lived at Diamond Point then. It is about 15 miles east of Sequim at the
mouth of Discovery Bay. Some of the rather unusual things you encounter
as a bird bander.
