Good morning tweeters and Happy Thanksgiving,

I was having trouble sleeping at 4:30 this morning (fantasizing about
feasting on one of our feathered friends?) and was rewarded for my
discomfort by a Barred Owl hooting from the ravine (Thornton Creek) behind
our house. That's the second one I've heard here, the first in March 1998.
I've also heard and seen one Great Horned Owl and heard Barn Owls flying
over on two occasions. Not a very owl-rich neighborhood, but it is right in
the middle of the city (or is this the suburbs? - I've never been sure).
I've been surprised never to have heard any of the smaller owls, but maybe
there isn't quite enough wooded habitat here. Of course, their voices don't
carry as far as those of the large species, so there may be some in the
ravine somewhere.
