Announcing the following Washington Ornithological Society Field Trips

Sunday, October 20th -- Ken Knittle will lead a field trip in Wahkiakum
County to the Julia Butler Hansen NWR near Cathlamet. Here, and on nearby
Puget Island, the main target bird will be the White-tailed Kite. Species of
interest will also include Tufted Duck mixed in with scaup, Sandhill Crane,
Western Scrub-Jay, American Pipit, and Fox, Lincoln's and White-throated
Sparrows. Plan to spend the afternoon in the Altoona area where several
species of loon are possible, and Pelagic Cormorant along with Surf and
White-winged Scoters may be observed about as far up the Columbia River as
these salt water birds go on a regular basis. Limit of 8 birders. For

Saturday, November 23rd -- Mike and MerryLynn Denny will lead a diurnal
owling field trip to southeastern Washington. Birding Columbia, Garfield,
and Walla Walla Counties, target birds will include Barn, Western Screech,
Great Horned, Northern Pygmy, Barred, Great Gray, Long-eared, Short-eared,
and Northern Saw-whet Owls. Other species of interest will include American
Tree, White-throated and Harris's Sparrows. All three accipiters
(Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, and Northern Goshawk) are possible.
