Actually, unless something has changed, Carolina wrens tend
to be "tidal" -- they've historically been fairly common in
parts of New York and New England after relatively mild winters,
and quite scarce or absent after harsh winters. If there
hasn't been a harsh winter -- I don't know whether this is defined
primarily by temperature or snow cover -- for the last several
years, it could seem like any other range expansion. Of course it
*is* a range expansion, but it might be just temporary, as has
been the pattern.
