This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Thursday,
October 3rd, October 4th morning update, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds
Unlimited stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured birds are STILT SANDPIPER and SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER

Sightings for Thursday, October 3rd

Reifel was again the location for a STILT SANDPIPER and a SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPER.

Another 12 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS were at the Iona Ponds along
with a PEREGRINE FALCON.

There were 12 BARN SWALLOWS near the 72nd Street
turf farms in Delta.

Wednesday, October 2nd

Three WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were seen near the stone bridge in Stanley
Park.

On October 1st, a CINNAMON TEAL was seen at the mansion at Boundary Bay.

Tuesday, October 1st

Along Highway 10 in Panorama Ridge, near Watershed Park, an adult
BROAD-WINGED HAWK was seen among a group of 14 TURKEY VULTURES in overflight
heading east.

At the foot of 104th, Boundary Bay were 30 LAPLAND LONGSPURS while at the
foot of 112th, there was an OSPREY.

>From Iona comes the report of a juvenile RUFF and 6 SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPERS.

Another SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Reifel along with a STILT SANDPIPER, 2
BARN SWALLOWS and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

At Burnaby Mountain Park were a NORTHERN PYGMY OWL, a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE
and an OSPREY. Nearby, at a feeder near Sumas and Holdom in Burnaby, was a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, while near Lougheed Mall, a PILEATED WOODPECKER and
4 TURKEY VULTURES were seen.

Out of town at Green Lake in Whistler, 10 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES were seen.

On September 30th, there were 3 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE near #2 Road and
English Drive in Richmond and at Reifel, there was a STILT SANDPIPER, an
OSPREY and an AMERICAN KESTREL.
