Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 10. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On October 5 a BROWN THRASHER was along Honey Creek in the Warner Mountains
west of Plush. On the October 5 offshore boat trip out of Newport five
XANTUS'S MURRELETS, five SKUAS, and a FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATER along with
good numbers of BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, FULMARS, and CASSIN'S AUKLETS were
seen.

A RUFF was at Bandon October 9, along with both GOLDEN-PLOVERS. A
SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER has been seen there during the week.

Movements of WHITE-FRONTED and SNOW GEESE were reported during the week. A
flock of SNOW GEESE was on Sauvie Island October 4, and two TULE
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at Coon Point October 8. Good sized flocks of the
chocolate colored SOOTY FOX SPARROWS were reported. Large flocks of AMERICAN
WIGEON have arrived and several EURASIAN WIGEON have been identified.

There are now two RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS behind the Marine Science Center on
Yaquina Bay. A SANDHILL CRANE was in Seaside October 6.

A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was at the end of Rentenaar Road on Sauvie Island
October 6. Large flocks of CACKLING CANADA GEESE and SANDHILL CRANES are now
on the Island. They are best observed from Coon Point. A SURF SCOTER was at
the mouth of the Sandy River October 5. A STILT SANDPIPER was at the
Fernhill Wetlands October 9.

There are now two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS at the EE Wilson Wildlife Area near
Corvallis. Up to 10,000 VAUX'S SWIFTS are still using the Agate Hall Chimney
in Eugene. On October 8 a SURF SCOTER was at Lost Creek Reservoir on the
Rogue River north of Medford.

An early NORTHERN SHRIKE was at Malheur NWR October 5. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
was near Burns the next day. A SANDERLING was at Chickahominy Reservoir near
Riley October 7.
