While at the Big Ditch (N of Stanwood, S of Conway) on Thursday 10/10 I saw a couple of harriers and then heard some familiar calls in the distance; about 150 snow geese were flying in at the water's edge. It was a pleasant reminder that winter is already on its way, although autumn got here just a few weeks ago.
On Seattle's Capitol Hill at 15th and Union I heard a scrub jay; I'm accustomed to seeing and hearing them at my home in Ballard, but it was a bit startling for me to hear one over there. Now that I think about it, I recall Wallis Bolz used to report them frequently just over the hill and west of the arboretum.
