Greetings All,

On the night of 15 October I went into the Entiat Mountains northeast of
Leavenworth, Chelan County to listen for owls and other wildlife.
The Route: From US 2 at Leavenworth head north on the Chumstick Highway.
Just past the 2 milepost and the Eagle Creek sign turn right onto the paved
road which is the Eagle Creek Rd. Go about 5.7 miles to the end of the
pavement. Turn left onto FS Rd 7520 and take this road about 5.8 miles to
the junction with FS Rd 5200. At this junction go left-north onto FS Rd 5200
heading to Sugarloaf Peak.
There was a three quarters moon, absolutely no wind, and clear skies.
Northern Saw-whet Owl...Three were heard along the upper part of FS Rd 7520,
at elevations between 3200 and 4000 feet. Several vocalizations were heard
including the soft version of the primary song, a series of kow...kow... kow
notes,and the often-heard whining call [two to three seconds long, catlike]
Boreal Owl...One was heard along FS Rd 5200 at elevation about 4500 feet.
This bird gave a rather lengthy series of low mournful moo-ah calls. About
a mile north of FS Rd 7520.
Northern Flying Squirrel...One was in a stand of Lodgepole Pine and
Subalpine
Fir. It was giving a series of shrill chirping sounds. FS Rd 5200 about 3
miles
from FS Rd 7520 near Sugarloaf Corrals.
