Here between 1520 and 1620 on my way back to Olympia after a meeting
in Ocean Shores. The sun was low in the sky so I spent most of my
time on the south side of the lagoon. Many-to-most of the waterfowl
in their rafts were sleeping making identification difficult at best,
so I did not bother to count them.
Birds seen (in taxonomic order):
Brown Pelican 470 [1]
Double-crested Cormorant 2
Canada Goose 38
Gadwall present [2]
Mallard Northern Shoveler present [3]
Ring-necked Duck present
American Coot 1
Unidentified gulls present
American Crow present
European Starling 100
Footnotes:
[1] Upon arrival I counted ~270; over the next hour an additional
200 flew in from the southwest. Mostly adults; ~5% juveniles.
[2] One pair for sure.
[3] The predominate Anas sp.
Total number of species seen: 11
