Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 17. If you have anythng to add call Harry Nehls at

On October 12 a PRAIRIE WAARBLER was seen at Pistol River. A PALM WARBLER
was also there. A MANX TYPE SHEARWATER was off Boiler Bay October 11.

SURF SCOTERS are now moving across the state and are being seen in many
areas including on high Cascade lakes. On October 10 a flock of 16 was at
the mouth of the Sandy River. ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and NORTHERN SHRIKES are
also arriving, and flocks of STELLER'S JAYS are moving around.

The RUFF continues to be seen at Bandon. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was on the
North Spit of Coos Bay October 12. Another was in Newport October 15. A
SCRUB-JAY visited a feeder south of Newport October 10. A MOCKINGBIRD was in
Seaside October 13. A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was at Stanley Lake in Seaside
October 16. Two POMARINE JAEGERS and many KITTIWAKES were at the South Jetty
of the Columbia River October 10.

The BLACK PHOEBE continues to be seen at Ridgefield NWR. An EMPEROR GOOSE
was at Coon Point on Sauvie Island October 14. A BARRED OWL was at Oaks
Bottom in Portland October 15.

A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER and five SNOW GEESE have been at the Fernhill
Wetlands all week. The Smithfield Road BUROWING OWL returned to Baskett
Slough NWR October 11. A BLACK PHOEBE and two GOLDEN EAGLES are now at
Ankeny NWR. Two TUNDRA SWANS were at Finley NWR October 16. A SWAMP SPARROW
was in Eugene October 14.

On October 16 a BARRED OWL was harassing juncos at Clarno in Sherman County.
