Today my mother and I located and photographed our second TROPICAL KINGBIRD
of the season at the Tokeland Marina along Kindred and Emerson Avenues.
between 1:28pm-2:15pm. The bird was originally found and located in flight
at approxiametely 300 feet above the ground,as we carefully watched it
decrease in elevation and finally land on powerlines near the end of Kindred
Ave. near the Tokeland Marina. The bird remained actively flycatching from
powerlines and poles along the southside of Kindred Ave. and at the end of
Emerson Ave in addition to being observed between 1:50pm-2:15pm on the north
side of Kindred Ave. along Emerson Ave.The bird remained the entire time
actively foraging and occasionally preening and stretching on powerlines
until we left the location at 2:15pm. Earlier at the Tokeland Marina we
located the similiar flock of large shorebirds as we watched them with Ben
Feltner and Paul Cozens and another birder with them,but we parted ways with
them shortly before locating the Tropical Kingbird at 1:25pm then we went to
use the public restrooms at the marina and within minutes of looking up into
the overcast sky we located the bird,until it dropped to the powerlines and
we watched the bird well until 2:15pm in the general vicinity immediately
west of the marina.

Our day began at the Hoquim STP at 8:55am then we continued to Ocean
Shores,where we encountered very cold temeratures with windy conditions and
low clouds/fog. We birded the Ocean Shores vicinity from 9:45am-11am with
few species due to the poor weather conditions so we decided to head south
towards Tokeland hoping the weather would be more appropriate,BUT the
weather remained cloudy and overcast throughout the remainder of the day
until we arrived to Raymond upon our drive back home from South Bend at 4pm.

Our other main highlight of the day was WHITE-TAILED KITES at two locations
with 1 adult bird observed at Ocosta near Bottle Beach along S.R.105 in
Grays Harbor Co.,where we previously located an adult bird on our WOS field
trip on the 15th of September along Ocosta Third Street. Today the bird was
observed along Ocosta Third St. then quickly flew northwest over S.R.105 and
landed in a fairly tall Douglas Fir tree,where it remained for about 15
minutes and allowed several photographs at fairly close range. The bird then
flew towards the southwest over S.R.105,but could have circled around after
we left the location. The other location we observed White-tailed Kites was
along Hwy.101 between MP 51.4 and MP 52 west of South Bend in Pacific Co.,
where up to 7 adults were counted and observed during our visit between
3:15pm-3:35pm. This is the same location where we located up to 12 adult
birds on the 12th of October,with 9 birds on the 14th.

Our mammal highlight of the day included 17 Roosevelt Elk foraging in an
open field with 2 White-tailed Kites nearby north of Hwy.101 at MP 51.
