On Saturday Netta S. led Kris Baker and I on a hike up to Rampart Ridge, near Alpental at Snoqualmie Pass. Despite the cloudy misty weather in the city, the pass area was sunny and clear and gorgeous. As we ate lunch at a narrow spine referred to as the catwalk, we spotted a distant bird with the distinctive flapping of an accipiter. It casually flew low and right overhead, a goshawk, heading southward.
The weather, the colors of the foliage, the pikas and squirrels, and the mountains were the other highlights. It was well worth the blisters and the sore knees! Fog and mist rolled in just we were leaving at dusk.
