Today I watched the adult female Great-tailed Grackle at the Auburn Super
Mall from 4:15-5:00PM. I found it in a tree in front of the entrance to the
Nordstrom Rack. In the 45 minutes I watched the bird, it foraged on the
ground, perched in bushes, in the middle and on the very top of a conifer.
At times it was with Brewer's Blackbirds and at times alone.
I looked for about ten minutes before I found it. I drove around the mall
parking area looking for blackbirds. I heard the sound of blackbirds coming
from a tree and although I couldn't see the birds at the time, I followed
the sound and there was the grackle amidst several brewer's. At 5PM the
grackle flew in the direction of Walmart with several brewer's.
