several recent reports of WESTERN SCRUB-JAYS in the Seattle area listed on
Tweeters, I would note that today I both heard and saw a WESTERN SCRUB-JAY
right around 12th Avenue North and Pine Street.on the west side of Capital

Saturday, October 19, 9:30PM. Hi, this is Stephen Mlodinow. Today,
Dennis Duffy and I birdwatched from the Ocean Shores area over to Westport
and Tokeland. The main highlights were a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD a
YELLOW-BILLED LOON and a BAR-TAILED GODWIT. The NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was by
the base of Bill's Spit at Ocean Shores. Take Peninsula to Bay, park at the
end of Bay and where the trail takes off to go to the shore, there's some
short conifers and the MOCKINGBIRD was there. The YELLOW-BILLED LOON was an
adult bird in alternate plumage flying south past Ocean Shores Jetty. The
BAR-TAILED GODWIT was in Westport. Take Wilson till it ends at the Marina.
Look across the water to the jetty. At the base of the jetty there was some
mud exposed. There was about a hundred MARBLED GODWITS there and the
BAR-TAILED was with them.
Other highlights included an OSPREY at the Ocean Shores Game Range, a
POMARINE JAEGER that flew past the Ocean Shores Jetty and 5 LAPLAND
LONGSPURS at the Game Range. We had a BLUE-WINGED TEAL at the Hoquiam Sewage
Ponds and at Tokeland there were 800 to 810 MARBLED GODWITS with 13 WILLETS,
one WHIMBREL and one LONG-BILLED CURLEW.

Sunday, October 20, 7:44PM. Hello, this is Scott Atkinson, (206)
406-2306, reporting on a real nice afternoon of birding up on Fir Island in
Skagit County. First at the Jensen Access to the Skagit Game Range, I had a
juvenile PACIFIC-GOLDEN-PLOVER, a PECTORAL SANDPIPER, an AMERICAN BITTERN
and a PEREGRINE. Then at the Hayden Preserve, this is just east, it's also
known as the Snow Goose Preserve, both heard and then seen, a first winter
SWAMP SPARROW.in the cattail thickets below the dike. There was also a first
year NORTHERN SHRIKE here, a very brown individual and another AMERICAN
BITTERN. Then the bird of the day had to be a female RUSTY BLACKBIRD wich
was seen about 5PM in a large roving flock of mostly BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS at
the entrance road to Blake's Resort. This is just northwest of Jensen along
Rallins Road going in the general direction of the North Fork Access to the
Skagit Game Range. Then along Mann Road, this is just east of the Skagit
Game Range Headquarters, about midway along Mann at the Percival residence,
right along the road, I had my first SLATE-COLORED JUNCO of the season. This
was a male and also a very late female immature YELLOW WARBLER. So all in
all a very good day.
