It's still there as of late afternoon. Tony Greenfield and Russ
Tkachuk from Sechelt watched it flitting about from time to time for about
45 min. from 4:08 PM on. The location was the top branches of the big
cottonwood right behind the second green bench on the trail (the first bench
is at the start of the trail), and then the next cottonwood further along
the trail. Most of the time it stayed back in the leaves so full views
seldom occurred. I got a glimpse of the tail (4th time lucky!) and will now
abandon my researches into mass hallucination.

For anyone not familiar with Waldie Island in Castlegar take the road to
Syringa Provincial Park called Robson Access Road. (this is if you're coming
from the direction of Nelson or over the bridge across the Kootenay R. from
the airport). Turn down Old Mill
Road (near the new bridge across the Columbia River to downtown
Castlegar). If coming from downtown Castlegar drive over the new bridge over
the Columbia R. but do not take the turnoff to Robson. Old Mill Road is
then just past the Robson turnoff. Old Mill Road deadends at the Sewage
Treatment Ponds. Drive
underneath the railway bridge and park. Take the trail that starts at
the right hand side of the gated opening to the sewage ponds. Follow the
trail east and then it curves north.
