Charles:

Rubus discolor is a dominant species in many parts of lowland wWA and has
been for quite awhile, indeed forming its own hedgerows in open, most often
disturbed soils. It also occurs well up into the mts along roadsides and
even invades some relatively undisturbed meadow habitats, as in San Juan
County. Yet for all the native flora it seems to have displaced, and the
pain its thorns cause, I guess it's not all bad. Zonos, Fox and other
sparrows really seem to have adapted to it, and it seems to attract several
other passerine species, including wintering Orange-crowns, too.
