Tonight while we were on a run to the local grocery store, Natalie
and I spotted a large bird flying and then landing in the top of a
tree about two blocks from our house. There was still enough light a
little after 5 p.m. to make out that the large owl was a Great Horned
Owl, the first that we have seen in our neighborhood despite living
here for eight years. It looked like the owl had flown up from a
large natural area in Mason Gulch to land on its precarious perch.

It's great to have some very local birding highlights!
