This morning (8/29/02) I saw one male Harlequin Duck at the Luhr Beach area
in Thurston CO. It was bobbing in and out of the waves mixed in with the
W/W Scoters and Surf Scoters. The bird could be seen as you scan left of
the boat launch near the pilings that are out in the deeper water. This is
my third record of this species at the Luhr site, and I would think it is
probably the best public spot for finding Harlequins (unless you have a
boat).

Other species:
Common Loon
Horned Grebe
D/C Cormorant
A. Wigeon (yesterday there were well over 400 birds here)
Scaup Species (further out, most likely Greaters)
Surf Scoter
W/W Scoter
Bufflehead
9 Red-Breasted Mergansers
1 Mew Gull
