My brother was visiting from Wisconsin this weekend and we did a whirlwind
tour through western Washington areas. Sunday morning Ocean Shores was
entirely fogged in, with mist and light rain at times. NOT good for ocean
viewing! We still scrounged up some good stuff including:
7 Wandering Tattler (O.Shores jetty)
2 Red-necked Phalaropes (O. Shores Treatment plant)
1 Black Throated Gray Warbler (Discover Ave, O. Shores)
2 Great-Horned Owls (Same location)
Approx. 300 Marbled Murrelets at Tokeland with 10 Willets.
Best birding was at Wesport Jetty, despite heavy people traffic:
3 Surfbirds
14+ Black Turnstones
1 Ruddy Turnstone
1 Wandering Tattler

Monday we left for Hurricane Ridge and again were cursed with heavy clouds
and mist! But we were undeterred and conquered with 5 wet hens (the Blue
variety). Other notables:
6 Marbled Murrelets from Ediz Hook
6 Red-Necked Grebes at same location and Dungeness Rec. Area lookout
3 Black Oystercatchers at Ediz Hook
10+ Black Turnstones at same location
4 MEW GULLS at John Wayne Marina and 2 at Dungeness.
10 Vaux's Swifts near Quilcene

We really bombed on all song birds, no migration was evident at any
location. We worked hard for one warbler. Good numbers of Pintails moving
though, and the Mew Gulls seem to be at a trickle up north. That's it,
sorry it's rushed but I'm tired and on break at work!
