Ian and others,
Ediz Hook forms the outer wall or spit for Port Angeles Harbor. To reach
it drive west on 101 to downtown PA where 101 turns right (south) but you
continue straight thru the downtown and on the same street all the way to
the hook. I think there are occasional signs that say things like to the
Coast Guard. There are a few curves. You drive thru the Daishowa Paper Mill.
After the paper mill there is a log yard then a small park on the right and
then you will see two mustard brown buildings further out on the Hook. The
log raft that the gull was sitting on is half way between those buildings.
There is a ROUGH parking lot directly opposite to the raft or you can get a
good look at the raft from either of the the 3 parking areas and the
position of the sun determines which is the best place to park. The gull,
fortunately, was on the part of the raft nearest the shore.
