Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I scouted in the White Pass region, mainly in Lewis Co.
as well as scouting made at the White Pass Campground(CG)in Yakima Co. and
the Glenoma-Packwood area in Lewis Co. Our main search was to locate any
dragonflies at Leech Lake at White Pass and Riffe Lake near Glenoma along
with attempts made along FR 46 NE of Packwood near the Bluff Lake trailhead.
We were unable to locate any key species of dragonflies such as Mountain
Emerald, Emerald Spreadwing, and Hudsonian Whiteface due to rather windy and
cool conditions and also some of the wet areas at the White Pass CG that
hosted unusual species in past years were completely dry away from Leech
Lake, but a few common species were noted such as Paddle-tailed Darner and
Boreal Bluet. We checked an area along FR 46 that hosted the first Lewis
Co.record of Black Petaltail on the September 19,1999, but windy conditions
prevailed, although appropriate habitat conditions were very apparent with
water seeps along the road favorable within this species. Shorebird habitat
is very minimal at Riffe Lake due to still fairly moderate water levels
visible at the north end of the lake, but a few species may persist with
enough searching through the fall. We managed to locate a few notable bird
highlights for the day at a few locations including 2 COMMON TERNS foraging
over the north end of Riffe Lake in Lewis Co.,which is accessed from the
town of Glenoma along Hwy.12. Our second highlight of the day was an adult
GOLDEN EAGLE flying over a ridge line approxiametely 8 miles off of Hwy.12
along FR 46. Our third highlight of the day was our first 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS of the season noted at White Pass on the Lewis Co. side. along with
a somewhat out of place WESTERN MEADOWLARK flushed from the grassy edges at
White Pass along Hwy.12 in both Lewis and Yakima Cos. A list of our bird
