This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Thursday
September 5, evening update, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured birds are: Buff-breasted Sandpiper and Solitary Sandpiper.

Sightings for Thursday, September 5:

The Buff-breasted Sandpiper count has reached 10 birds on the turf or sod
farm on 72nd Street in Delta. Another 2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers were seen
at the foot of 112th along with an American Golden Plover in a field due
west of 112th. It has also been reported that the first Buff-breasted
Sandpiper was seen at the foot of 104th Street on Monday.

A Solitary Sandpiper was at Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, northeast of the
stone bridge on a little island. The bird was first seen yesterday but not
reported.

A juvenile Horned Lark was seen at the Maplewood conservation area in North
Vancouver, and another Horned Lark was on the south jetty at Iona Island.

An early Rough-legged Hawk was at 52nd Street ant Highway 17 in Delta.

Wednesday, September 4:

A flock of up to 9 Buff-breasted Sandpipers were seen on the sod farm on
72nd Street in Delta, and another Buff-breasted Sandpiper was seen on the
foreshore just east of the foot of 104th Street on the rising tide.

The American Avocet was again seen at Reifel on the south side of the
southeast pond. The Hudsonian Godwit was also at Reifel, along with 2 Green
Herons on Fuller's Slew and 1 at the gift shop pond.

3 Greater White-fronted Geese, including 8 juveniles, were on the foreshore
at the foot of 112th Street in Delta.

And there is a report of a Pink-sided Dark-eyed Junco along Ashgrove
Crescent in Burnaby.

Tuesday, September 3:

6 Buff-breasted Sandpipers were seen at 6:00 in the evening at the sod farm
on 72nd Street in Delta.

At Reifel an American Avocet was in the southwest marsh, and the Hudsonian
Godwit and a Green Heron were in the gift shop pond.
