September 2, 2002, Monday, 8:51 p.m. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Today, Bob Flores and I birded Wahluke Wildlife Management Area at a couple of accesses, and also went to the Othello ponds. It was a slow day for migrants. The highlight was a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT that was near Ringold, at that access to the Wahluke Wildlife Management Area. There was also a YELLOWTHROAT there, a couple of YELLOWTHROATS at the east, I'm sorry, at the west access to Wahluke. And at the west side of Wahluke, there were also 5 Pugetensis WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS. That's it. Good luck and good birding.

September 3, 2002, Tuesday, 9:24 a.m. Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. I'm about to head off to Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. This morning I birded the Wahlua area. At McNary National Wildlife Refuge, at a pond along the side of U.S. 12, there was a MARBLED GODWIT, 2 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER. At the Iowa Beef ponds, there were 2 FRANKLIN'S GULLS. There still remains very little shorebird habitat there. And at the Walla Walla River delta, there were lots of shorebird habitat, but there was a PEREGRINE FALCON, so relatively few shorebirds, but 1 SANDERLING was present. That's about it. September 3, 2002, Tuesday, 8:44 p.m. This is Larry Switters, (425) 392-9161. At 8:20 tonight, this is Tuesday, right in front of the Issaquah Post Office, flying over Gilman Boulevard, there was a BARN OWL.

September 4, 2002, Wednesday, 10:50 p.m. This is Bob Norton in Port Angeles, (360) 928-3053. Late this afternoon in Port Angeles harbor there was what appeared to be an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. The bird is reached from Ediz Hook. You get to Ediz Hook by following 101 into town and when the road turns left in downtown Port Angeles, continuing straight following the signs of the Coast Guard through the Diashowa paper plant out towards the Coast Guard station. Once you pass the Diashowa plant, there is a log raft area on your right and then a small park, and then ahead there are two brown or mustard buildings. You can stop at the first one after noon, and at the furthest one in the morning, so you have the light at your back, or there is a rough parking lot right opposite the logs that are closest to shore in the older log raft.

September 6, 2002, Friday, 5:50 a.m. Hi, Tom Aversa reporting from Eastern Washington. On the 5th, on the 4th actually, I had 6 COMMON TERNS at Lyon's Ferry and then on the 5th at Lyon's Ferry, I had 2 CATBIRDS, and at Central Ferrry State Park there was a RED-EYED VIREO and a GRAY FLYCATCHER. Also 2 RED-EYED VIREOS and a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER at Washtucna.
