This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Sunday,
September 8, evening update, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured birds are: AMERICAN AVOCET, WILSON'S and RED-NECKED PHALAROPES.

Sightings for Sunday, September 8:

At Reifel, in the west field, near the tower there were an AMERICAN AVOCET,
2 WILSON'S and 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and 2 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS.

Saturday, September 7:

The BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER count continues to climb on the turf farm at
72nd Street in Delta with 14 birds seen. Elsewhere in Delta, a SHARP-TAILED
SANDPIPER was 100 meters east of the foot of 104th Street. The bird was seen
in the morning and later relocated that evening. Also at 104th were 2 late
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS and 8 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES were at Reifel and 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, a
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER and 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS were at Iona Island.

5 TURKEY VULTURES were at the north end of 208th Street in Langley.

A juvenile HORNED LARK was near the bridge at the Maplewood Flats area of
North Vancouver and 19 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were at Klootchman Park in West
Vancouver.

In a late report for September 5, an AMERICAN AVOCET was at Piper Spit in
Burnaby Lake Park.

Friday, September 6:

The first SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was seen at Reifel in the gift shop pond.
It's possible the bird was seen on the 3rd but not reported. Also at Reifel
were an AMERICAN AVOCET, a GOLDEN PLOVER species and 10 VAUX'S SWIFTS.

10 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS continued to be seen at the turf farm at 72nd
Street in Delta, along with 2 juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS.
