Saturday (9/7) Mary Klein and I birded in Skagit County. At Jensen Access
in late afternoon, Mary saw 4 birds land on the bare dirt at the northwest
corner of
the field east of the access road. We watched them through scopes from a
distance. The 4 birds with their pigeon-like gait walked east into the
stubble and disappeared. We walked out to Maupin Road to the point where we
had last seen these BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS but the birds didn't show
again.

They were a little smaller than the Killdeer that were close by when we
first saw them. They were buff-colored below. Short dark bill. "Blocky"
head. The big black eye stood out amid a plain buff face. Only once did I
glimpse light-colored yellowish legs.

I returned on Sunday morning to try to find them again, but no luck.
