Re: you said....

"There were large numbers of birds roosting out on the beaches though
the fog made them hard to find. The birds were so loud I could here
them from the west side of the game range !!!!"

Stuart...those were thousands of Black-bellied Plovers and Sanderlings, and
a few other species thrown in to keep us hopping. Kathleen Wolgemuth and I
were out there for nearly 6 hrs doing our COASST (dead bird) survey from
Beach St. (approx. 1/4 mi. north of the North Jetty) to Marine View Dr. With
the rising tide (9.6 at 4:49pm), the birds just kept coming in, and Kathleen
and I kept up our steady pace north, trying to keep from flushing all of
them. It worked because they flew around us in smaller groups and landed
just south of us as we moved north. I had my binos with me, but the moist
and salty air left a film on the lenses. We were often close enough to see
them and I.D. them with the naked eye...not to mention their calls. It was
quite a sight. We left the beach at 5pm, in blowing fog and poor visibility.
