Tahoma Audubon is offering 3 birding classes this fall, in addition to the bird banding class previously announced. They are open to all. If you have questions, contact Tahoma Audubon at audubon at worldstar.com, or myself.


1. WESTERN WASHINGTON HAWK WATCHING CLASS

When: Tuesdays, 7 ? 9 PM, November 19 ? December 17, 2002

** Includes 1 day field trip to the Skagit Valley
Where: Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler St., Tacoma

Cost: $135.00/person

Bud Anderson, founder and director of the Falcon Research Group, is teaching this informative and entertaining hawkwatching class. Bud has spent the last 35 years studying and learning from these beautiful birds. His classes are fun while informative, there is never a dull moment.
Beginners as well as advanced birders will enjoy this course, which will cover the 16 raptors that are seen in Western Washington. For those interested in volunteering, this course will prepare you for the Spring Tacoma Peregrine Monitoring project.

2. Beginning Birder?s Class ? Begins November 4th
Date: Mondays ? November 4, 11, 18; plus two morning field trips (November 9 and 16)

Time: 6:45-9:00pm (class instruction)

Location: The Tacoma Nature Center, located at 1919 S. Tyler St.

Teacher: Marcus Roening - Master Birder, Past-president of both WOS and TAS.

To Register: send in a check for $30 (members) or $50 (non-members) to the Tahoma Audubon Society (2917 Morrison Rd. W, University Place, WA 98466). For more information, please call the TAS office at (253) 565-9278. Maximum 15 registrants.

3. Intermediate Birder?s Class ? Begins October 8th
Class Dates: Tuesdays, 7-9 PM - October 8, 15, 22, 29; November 5, 12. Course includes 4 field study sessions, the first is scheduled for October 12th and 13th for shorebirds. Tentative dates for additional field sites are 11/2 (Nisqually/Fort Steilacoom/Chambers Creek), 11/16 (Port Orchard), and a three-day trip sometime in Jan/Feb (east of the Cascade Mountains).

Class Location: Tahoma Audubon Center ? 2917 Morrison Rd. W, University Place.

Teacher: Ken Brown, popular field trip leader and instructor.
