Subject: Hope Island Survey

Jim Pruske and I participated in Janet Shonk's bird survey to Hope
Island. We left Jarrell Cove about 8:15am and birded Pickering Passage
on the way to Hope Island. We left Hope Island at 3:00pm and headed back
to Jarrell Cove via the same passage. In route we had,
Pigeon Guillemots - 40+
Red Necked Grebes - 25
Common Loon - 12
California Gull - 1

We arrived at the Hope Island and we were joined by Vanessa the park
ranger on the survey. The majority of species found were near the ranger
station. On the island we had,
Black Throated Gray Warbler - 2
Swainson Thrush - 1
Red Breasted Sapsucker - 1
Pileated Woodpecker - 4+
Hairy Woodpecker - 1
Fox Sparrow - 1
Hutton's Vireo - 1
Surf Scoter - 2
Mew Gull - 2

At Jarrell Cove we had,
Fox Sparrow - 2
Cooper's Hawk - 1

On the way home we stopped at Kennedy Creek. We had,
Black Bellied Plover - 60+
Northern Pintail - 11
Green winged Teal - 8
Bonaparte's Gull - 100+

Janet's next survey is set for Sunday October 6.
